Dr.Web Anti-spam — is an efficient and highly productive spam filtering solution based on Vade Retro technology by GOTO Software, France.
Dr.Web has selected the best technologies and created a comprehensive Anti-spam solution for you!
Client-independent solution
Dr.Web Anti-spam does not require mail program plugins in order to function. Deep integration into Dr.Web SpIDer Mail monitor means the software runs completely independent to any e-mail client(s) used for receipt and processing of e-mails.
Filtering of e-mail traffic via POP3\IMAP4
The incoming mail is filtered, not only on standard POP3 protocol but also on the popular IMAP4. IMAP4 allows users to download parts of a message such as the subject, body, attachment, etc, instead of the whole message. This helps save on traffic as well as lets users view messages marked as spam allowing them to choose not to download these unwanted emails.
Highly efficient filtering
The anti-spam was primarily designed for corporate mail servers and so has a high filtering speed. In one second Dr.Web Anti-spam checks over one hundred messages for spam on-the-fly (1.9GHz Pentium 4 CPU)! In addition, Dr.Web Anti-spam will never overload your computer and has little effect to the timing of email receipt.
Different technologies for different types of spam
Dr.Web Anti-spam uses different filtering techniques for different types of unsolicited e-mails – such as spam, phishing, pharming, scamming – and bounce messages, this technique produces an exceptionally high detection rate. Before a verdict is made - spam\not spam – the collective features of each message are studied.
Filtered mail is not deleted!
Messages marked as spam are never deleted. Spam messages can be automatically sent to a designated folder and checked/deleted at a later date.
Regular updates
Spammers invent new techniques every day to counteract spam-fighters, as do Dr.Web anti-virus and anti-spam developers. Like anti-virus, anti-spam requires frequent updates. Updates for Dr.Web Anti-spam are released daily and downloaded automatically by the Dr.Web updating utility.
By using the unique spam filtering technologies of Vade Retro, Dr.Web is able to supply daily updates and rules that even the smallest bandwidth handles with ease.
Flexible settings and ease of use
Dr. WEB Anti-spam is easy to use, even for PC-beginners. After the spam-filtering is activated and the first e-mail message is received, the anti-spam immediately starts operating by automatically! In addition, the software has functionality for advanced settings, this allows customization. Some of these settings are hieroglyphic encodings for Language changes, such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
Also users can create a local Whitelist and Blacklist to fine tune the Anti Spam software to your specific requirements. The Whitelist contains all the e-mail addresses and domains you trust. Mail from these addresses or domains will never be labeled as spam. The Blacklist allows you to ban individual e-mail addresses or complete domains, blacklisted mail will be transferred straight to the ‘Spam’ folder or any other folder chosen by you.
An Anti-Spam that is ready to go!
Dr. Web is truly unique. Unlike other anti-spam software Dr. Web requires
no initial tuning or setup by the user; it begins working effectively upon
install. However, Dr. Web can also be taught to recognize and sort mail
beyond these built-in parameters. The Dr.Web Anti-Spam uses your input to
create a spam "Library". This Library is used when classifying your mail. Messages falsely detected as spam should be sent to vrnonspam@drweb.com, those falsely not detected as spam – to vrspam@drweb.com. This collaborative input is
then examined by Dr. Web developers and, if applicable, is included as part
of an update download for all users to benefit from.

Filtering techniques
The anti-spam technologies used in new product by Dr.Web contain several thousand rules which can be divided into several groups.
Heuristic analysis
A highly intelligent technology that empirically analyzes all parts of a message: header, message body, etc. Not only the message itself but its attachment(s) is analyzed. The heuristic analyzer is constantly improved; new rules are frequently added.
Counter – reaction
The counter-reaction technique is one of the most advanced and efficient technologies of Dr.Web anti-spam. It helps counteract techniques and tricks used by spammers.
HTML-patterns
Messages with HTML-coding are compared with a list of known patterns from Dr. WEB’s anti-spam library. Such comparison, in combination with data on image sizes typically used by spammers, helps protect users against spam messages with HTML-code, which often include online images.
Semantic analysis
During a semantic analysis words and phrases from a message are compared with words and phrases typical for spam. The comparison is made against a predefined dictionary. All words, phrases and symbols are analyzed – both those visible to the human eye and those masqueraded by the technical tricks of spammers.
Anti-scamming technology
Scam (as well as pharming messages – a type of scam-messages) is the most dangerous type of spam. Included here are the so-called “Nigerian” scams, loan scams, lottery and casino scams and false messages from banks and credit organizations. A special module in Dr.Web anti-spam is used to filter such scams.
Technical spam filtering
So-called bounce messages may appear as a reaction to viruses, or as a manifestation of a viral activity – for example, messages from the self-spreading mass mailing worm or e-mail delivery failure messages, and are as undesirable as spam. A special module of Dr.Web Anti-spam filters such messages as unwanted.
