Outstanding scalability
Dr.Web for Exchange Server 2000/2003 can meet the requirements of both small companies with only one server and large corporations with unlimited mail traffic thanks to its efficiency, flexible settings and filtering capability of huge volumes of e-mail messages on-the-fly.
High productivity and stable operation
The multi-threaded scanning function allows the processing of huge amounts of e-mails simultaneously.
Minimal system load
Low system resources requirements allow Dr.Web for Exchange Server 2000/2003 to smoothly function on mail servers of almost any configuration. Its installation and functioning does not require the hardware upscale.
Easy installation and tuning
Despite the complexity of tasks for anti-virus protection of corporate e-mail traffic performed by Dr.Web for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003, it is easy and flexibly integrated into the e-mail system, simple in installation and set up. Fully automatic start at the system startup and convenient updating procedure with the help of the standard Windows scheduler considerably facilitate administration of Dr.Web for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003.
High protection level
The combination of huge Dr.Web virus database and constantly perfecting heuristic analyzer leave no chances for viruses, including micro viruses, Trojan Horses and other malware to penetrate into users’ computers via e-mails. The anti-virus detects ill-intentional programs written for all platforms — Windows, UNIX, DOS, including the objects which can infect files of Microsoft Office. It scans incoming and outgoing messages on-the-fly, monitors users’ mail boxes and files stored in shared folders. It can also scan for viruses the transit e-mail streams routed via the Exchange server. Dr.Web for Exchange scans objects in the memory buffer which increases substantially the efficiency of scanning.
Correct scanning of archives
Dr.Web for Exchange Server 2000/2003 correctly scans the majority of existing formats of packed files and archives with any nesting level, including multi-volume and self-extracting. It can process more than 1000 types of archives and packers.
In the protected system Dr.Web for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003 performs the following actions:
- Scans incoming and outgoing messages
- Blocks and moves infected and suspicious objects to quarantine
- Sends alerts on virus events to administrators and users
- Keeps logs and collects statistics
- Automatically updates virus databases
- Filters spam
- Filters e-mails per different criteria
- Adds arbitrary texts to sent messages, if necessary
- Generates summary reports and statistics
Administration console
Dr.Web for Exchange Server 2000/2003 is managed via the administration console integrated into Microsoft Management Console (MMC). It allows to easily manage all components of the anti-virus protection, receive alerts on virus events and specify automatic actions for them, automate tasks, perform daily routines in just minutes, without any extensive time commitments, increase productivity while reducing administrator time and costs.
Grouping and managing groups
Dr.Web for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003 is highly scalable to the network size and its topology. It can be adapted both for small networks and complicated distributed intranets with thousands of hosts. The option of grouping facilitates administration of the anti-virus protection.
The administrator can specify different settings for different groups, as well as similar settings for several groups. This is achieved on the basis of profiles. A profile specifies the actions for infected, suspicious, and incurable objects — cure, delete, move to the quarantine, block, etc.
Reprioritizing during the scanning
All incoming messages are processed according to the scanning priority assigned to them. When saved to a folder, a message is assigned a low priority. As soon as a client attempts to open the message, the latter is re-assigned to a high priority. To assure ultimate protection, outgoing messages are processed before they are processed by the client. Thus, reprioritization of messages, as well as a two-way scanning, provide for high protection level and spare system resources.
Efficient filtering of spam
E-mail messages are filtered for spam by the VadeRetro library. Due to dynamically updated code of the anti-spam’s library the filtering speed is always high and the quality of detection is constantly improving. High filtering speed is combined with low system resources consumption; the anti-spam perfectly functions on mail servers of almost any configuration.
Depending on the analysis each messages receives the score from the VadeRetro library – an integer ranging from -10000 to +10000. The less the score is, the more likely the message is "legitimate", i.e. not spam. The threshold is set to 200, i.e. if the score equals to 200 or more, the message is classified by the VadeRetro library as spam. At the end of analysis "***SPAM***" is added to such messages.
Different parameters for filtering of e-mails
An administrator can create special rules to filter incorrect messages. The rules can be customized by names and extensions of attached files, file size and number of recipients. Such filtering is made before a message is checked for viruses and spam; this allows to decrease even more the load on the protected system.
Adding texts to sent messages
An arbitrary text can be added to messages sent by the company employees (for example, disclaimers, or advertisements). The texts can be added to messages sent both in HTML format and in plain text.
Quarantine
Incurable and suspicious objects can be moved to the quarantine mail box. Its place is defined during the installation. The objects in the quarantine can be deleted or saved to the hard drive by the administrator. Original copies of suspicious messages are stored in the backup before they are deleted. For incurable objects this option is disabled by default.
Collection of statistics
Any action taken for protection of the data stored on the server is logged into the log file. The max log file size option allows to avoid clogging up the server with log files and archives with log files of large sizes. There is another option to delete them when the max log file size option is exceeded.
Reporting
Reports are sent via e-mail. The interval of sending the reports is specified by the administrator. The following reports are generated:
- All Incidents
- Incidents by recipients
- Most recent viruses
- Spam count
- Who are most spammed ever
- Who are most virused ever
Customized alerts
To customize alerts to system administrators macros are used. For every type of detected objects – curable, incurable, spam – alerts can be customized. Alerts are sent via e-mail or logged to the Windows event log. For every type of alerts recipients of the alerts, the subjects and texts, and other parameters can be specified (by macros as well).
